This picture of Mt. Rainier is one of my favorites, and encompasses the meaning of a happy accident. I drove out to the mountain hoping for clear skies, and was met with a haze from distant wildfires instead. I stayed the night and shot the Milky Way over the mountain, and found that it cast a strange color on the stars.
Through precise imaging techniques and a bit of artistic license, a blend of art and science seasoned to taste, the result is a purple Milky Way. I love the peaceful reprieve this picture grants me whenever I look at it. Also, it's purple, how cool is that?
